5-8 cm long; lanceolate, oblong, or elliptic; with 1 to 4 small bristle-tipped teeth on each side at the end of shallow lobes; lustrous dark green above, paler beneath with beige pubescence at axils; leaves shape is variable, even on the same tree; petiole 1.2-2.5 cm long;

acorn nearly stalkless, similar to Q. rubra.

hardy; requires lime-free soils; vigourous;
