January-February; pistillate inflorescences 5-15 mm long, densely golden-brown woolly tomentose;

acorn 2 cm long, 1.5 cm wide, ovoid; puberulent at tip; cup thin, hairy inside and outside, enclosing 1/3 of nut, with 6-7 concentric rings of scales; maturing in 1 year;

not hardy; evergreen broad-leaved forests in mountains;
