8-15 cm x 2-4; lanceolate, seldom linear-oblong or oval-lanceolate; long acuminate at apex; base rounded or obtuse, rarely cuneate; leathery; young leaves both sides silvery-tomentose; hairless, green above; pale glaucous beneath with rather persistent hairs; margin entire, seldom toothed; 10-12 pairs of secondary veins, ascendent, curved, slightly raised beneath; petiole hairless 1.5-2 cm long;

acorn ovoid-globose 2.8 cm in diameter and 3 cm high; cup flattened covering only base of nut, 2-3 cm in diameter, 8-10 mm high; 6-7 (-9) crenate rings; maturing first year;

not hardy;
