7-20 x 2-6 cm; coriaceous but thin; lanceolate to elliptic; apex acuminate with 0.5-1.5 cm long cuspid; base acute attenuate, sometimes asymmetrical; margin entire, flat, remotely serrulate at apical half; nearly hairless above; densely greyish brown pubescent beneath, with simple hairs; 14-20 pairs of secondary veins straight, parallel, closely spaced, prominent below, forming an angle of 45-60° with the midrib; petiole 1-2 cm long, slightly tomentose, flat or remotely grooved above;

April to May; male catkins 5-10 cm long, glabrescent; male flowers solitary or in clusters of 3, perianth tomentose 5-6-lobed , 6-8 glabrous stamens, pistillode replaced by a tuft of stiff hairs; female inflorescence hairy, 1.5-2 cm long, with 5-6 flowers; pistillate flowers with hairy perianth 5-6-lobed, ovary conical, 3 styles 1-3 mm long;

acorn ovoid, subglobose to cylindrical, 2-3 cm long, 1-3 cm wide, tomentose, base rounded, apex attenuate to rounded; sessile; enclosed 1/3 by cup; cup tomentose, tawny, slightly higher than wide, with 5-10 concentric, denticulate rings of scales; August to December ;
