6-15 x 3-10 cm; deciduous; leathery; oboval-oblong or oval; adaxially slightly convex; apex rounded with a small pointed tip; base cuneate or narrowly rounded; margin wavy, crenate-dentate with 7-10 pairs of obtuse teeth; dark green, dull, glabrous above; densely but shortly grey brown tomentose beneath, with yellowish-white stellate hairs; 8-12 vein pairs, parallel, at an angle of 40° with midrib; tertiary veins evident underneath; petiole 3-10 mm, yellow brown pubescent; conspicuous red leaves at fall;

April; male catkin pubescent, 1-2 cm long; female inflorescence 1-6 cm, bearing 2-4 seeds;

acorn 1.8-2.2 cm long, 0.5-1 cm wide; glabrous; oblong, mucronate; enclosed 1/3 by cup; cup sessile, 1 cm in diameter, bearing broad, pubescent scales; maturing in 1 year;
